Brenda Conaway

StayWell Custom Communications Editorial Director; is responsible for overseeing editorial operations for six publications and developing new print products. She edits three publications and writes most of the behavior change copy, as well as other health and wellness articles for print and online. In 1999, she received the Times Mirror editor of the year award. Prior to joining StayWell, she worked in textbook publishing. She also worked in nutrition research teaching nutrition classes, editing manuals and coordinating research studies.

Barbara Floria

Founding editor of Vitality magazine in 1987; is responsible for editing all editorial products for Vitality, which provides much of the content of StayWell Solutions Online. She also writes and edits six quarterly special supplements covering self care and prevention, substance abuse, back care and ergonomics, workplace safety, senior health issues and workplace productivity. She has also written 25 single topic wellness brochures. Prior to coming to StayWell, Barbara held editorial positions at MD Magazine and Cosmopolitan. She has been a professional journalist for more than 25 years.

J. Stephen McIver

Executive Editor for print content. Since Mr. McIver joined StayWell in 1997, its publications and Web sites have won more than 100 awards in industry contests. Mr. McIver also worked for more than two decades at newspapers, reporting and editing health stories in Pennsylvania, Connecticut and Delaware. Several projects he edited won prestigious regional awards.

Joanne Barker

Donna Debs

A free-lance writer with 30 years' professional experience, including 10 as a writer, reporter and editor for KYW Newsradio in Philadelphia, where her specialties included women's affairs. Recipient of several journalistic awards, she now focuses both her writing and personal attention on health and wellness; she is also a certified yoga instructor teaching several classes each week. She has been writing for StayWell for 10 years.

Sandra Deden

An associate editor and writer at StayWell. Before coming to StayWell in 1999, she was an assistant editor and writer for a Boston-based medical magazine. She also worked as a reporter for Boston University, covering the School of Medicine beat for three years. She has more than 14 years' writing and editing experience and received her master’s degree in writing and publishing from Emerson College in Boston.

Stephanie English

An editor at StayWell, she writes and edits articles for one of the company's Medicaid publications and for a 36-page health and wellness magazine. Stephanie has extensive experience writing and editing women's health, parenting and low-literacy articles. Before joining StayWell in 1993, she was a newspaper reporter.

Diane Fancher

A journalist for more than 25 years, Ms. Fancher is the Anne Arundel County bureau chief for The Baltimore Sun. She edited or wrote about health topics at various times during earlier jobs with The Philadelphia Inquirer and The Hartford Courant. She has also served as managing editor of The Scientist and editor of Detroit Monthly, and a free-lance writer for a variety of publications. As a recipient of a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship for Journalists at the University of Michigan, she studied medical ethics issues.

Maura Fredey

A free-lance writer with eight years of experience in writing and editing for health care consumers. Ms. Fredey previously served as an editor for several publications for StayWell, where she specialized in the Medicaid audience, editing and writing for targeted reading levels. Ms. Fredey writes regularly for The New England Eye Institute and for On Call, a Boston Globe specialty magazine for health care professionals. She is the marketing and public relations manager for a Boston-area community hospital.

Bonnie Jacob

Her writing has also appeared in Modern Maturity, The Washington Star, The Washington Post and USA Today. Ms. Jacob worked for five years in the public affairs office of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Iowa. Lisa Jo Rudy

Has been writing about science and health for adults, families and children since 1987. Robert H. Shmerling, M.D., is associate physician at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and associate professor at Harvard Medical School. He has been a practicing rheumatologist for over 20 years at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
